All that is public melts into air
Semester 01 | 2024 | Melbourne School of Design
Studio Leaders: Bella Singal & Carey Landwehr

All that is public melts into air was a masters design studio run in collaboration with Bella Singal at the Melbourne School of Design. The studio delved into the repeated cycles of 'urban renewal' in Melbourne's first suburb, Fitzroy (Ngar-Go). Students engaged with the wicked problems of displacement and gentrification, exploring adaptive reuse opportunities around the Atherton Gardens Estate. With a focus on Community, Place, and Country, the studio employed mixed techniques to unpack the complex histories and human/non-human interactions in Ngar-Go. Through repeated site visits and local community engagement, students identified key sites that could bolster and empower community goals.
